Born to Hilda and Wilfred Twilley, she was raised in Shanghai and Vancouver with her sister Elaine. At Magee High School, she had the good fortune to meet Robert (Bob) McLennan, who would become her soul mate and husband of 69 years. She knew the value of a good education, so, in 1950, she attained her RN qualification from the VGH School of Nursing. Although her time in the paid professional workforce was relatively brief, she put her nursing knowledge to good use (sometimes life-saving) in raising children Rob, Glennie, and Debbie, as well as in her devoted care of her parents.
Delda’s energies were focussed on nurturing her children as they grew in Kerrisdale, Namu, Kelowna, and Coquitlam. The family’s home was busy, made more so by the steady stream of visitors that Delda welcomed. Delda was a good listener and conversation with her flowed easily.
She delighted in simple pleasures such as watching over her children as they swam in a lake, or cuddling her grandchildren.
Proud to have called her Nana or Gran are Lauren, Brock, Sarah, Spencer, Dayna, Shannon, and Kelly. Delda was either present for their birth, or very soon thereafter, to begin bonding with them. Her sister and sisters/brothers-in law made her an auntie to many cherished nieces and nephews.
Delda enjoyed all the comforts of her home in South Surrey with Bob, whom she adored, until her passing on August 2nd at age 91.
Delda was good-natured, soft-spoken, calm, elegant, and wise. To know her was to love her.
Private ceremony to be attended by immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation at https://www.pahfoundation.ca/
