Don was born in 1932 in Xinhui, a district of Jiangmen in Guangdong, China. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 21 in 1953 and lived his life in Victoria, BC. He was married to Chan Shun Oi in 1966. Don worked as a chef for a local restauranteur before opening the Rice Bowl restaurant with two friends in 1967. The three operated two locations. In 1972, Don and Oi assumed sole ownership of one location and operated it until their retirement in 1998.
Don was a reserved man who enjoyed living a simple life while helping others. He enjoyed spending time at the casino playing Pai Gow and later Baccarat, watching hockey, basketball, and football, and socializing over his favourite drinks.
Don is survived by his wife, daughter Pam, sons Albert and Vanson, and granddaughter Brianna.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC.
