

It is with great sorrow, yet fond memories that we announce the passing of Donald Murray Montgomery, who left us peacefully at the age of 96 on the 4th of March, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
Born on the 1st of June, 1928, Don lived a full life. He was preceded in death by his parents Winnifred M Montgomery née Wilson and Allan J Montgomery, his beloved wife Vera J Montgomery née Taylor, and his only child Donna J Swan née Montgomery. His legacy of love, strength, and resilience lives on in his family. Don is survived by his four grandchildren Janessa C Hitsman (William P Baxter), Courtney M Lewis (Michael K Lewis), Lizzy S Hitsman (Kyle L Knight) and Katelynn T Hitsman (Benjamin P Starkey), his son-in-laws Donald C Hitsman and William MK Swan, his five great-grandchildren, Maria V Zen Baxter, Austin MC Lewis-Nixon, Gavin G Lewis, Allie LJ Lewis, and Avery JR Starkey. As well as his loyal and beloved kitty cat, Bandit who brought him great comfort and joy in his later years.
Don grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba before settling in Burnaby B.C., where he met his wife Vera. They were happily married for 57 years before her passing in 2012. Together they raised their daughter Donna, and enjoyed traveling across Canada, often camping and skiing along the way.
Don was a man of many passions, he enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting, and travel. He spent many vacations exploring the world’s beaches.
Don took great pride in his work as the National Vice President for the Customs and Excise Union, which led him to meet many wonderful people from around Canada and the world.
Don will be interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby, B.C., Canada on the 28th of March, 2025. At his request, there will be no service.
