It is with profound sadness and the deepest of sorrow that we announce the passing of Dora Trasolini on July 24, 2020. She passed away peacefully at home with her loving family next to her and has ascended to her rightful place with the angels in heaven. She is predeceased by her father in-law Giovanni Trasolini, and is lovingly survived by her husband of 27 years Gerardo, sons Giovanni and Dante, mother and father Lucia and Carmine Gallaccio, brother Enzo, mother in-law Lucia Trasolini, sisters in-law Anna Hiebert and Pina Trasolini, brother in-law Brian Hiebert, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dora was born in Mignano Monte Lungo, Casserta, Italy and moved to Canada when she was 2 years old. She grew up in an enriched environment full of cherished family and friends on the East Side of Vancouver. She attended Tillicum Elementary School, followed by Templeton High School, where she was very athletic, adventurous, and enjoyed all types of fun games and pursuits. She was an especially gifted volleyball player to which she competed at a particularly high level. As a teenager, she was an ardent student and hard worker. During these years, she worked various part-time jobs at McDonalds and Zellers, where her dedication to customer service was greatly admired. After graduating high school, she worked for the Vancouver School Board for several years and then applied for a job at Placer Dome where she was promptly hired. She worked in their accounting department with the goal of someday becoming a chartered accountant.

It was at this time that she met her future husband Gerardo. They had an instant connection and soon fell in love. After a 5 month courtship, they became engaged and eventually married in the Summer of 1993. They settled into their home in Central Burnaby, and in January of 1995, they happily welcomed their first child, a son whom they named Giovanni. Two years later, in March of 1997, they rejoiced in having another son whom they named Dante. Dora took great pride in raising her family and generously sharing her joys with others. As her family grew, she nurtured them and gave them more love than anyone could ask for. She and her family moved to North Burnaby in 2003 and built their dream home there in 2012. She travelled extensively with her family and loved planning and organizing their trips. She was a phenomenal cook and became her family’s private 5 star chef. Her family never stopped marveling at what she could create in the dream kitchen which she helped build and design. When her husband and sons poked their noses too far into her cooking activities she famously bellowed “fuori della cucina!” She was the happiest person anyone could know.

On May 21, 2020, her world came crashing down, as she was diagnosed with a rare form of uterine cancer known as leiomyosarcoma. Throughout her difficult 2 month ordeal battling this disease, she kept her dignity and grace and refused to let her illness define her. She unselfishly kept her illness private so as to spare others from having to share her pain.

She leaves a large hole in our hearts, but we can take solace in knowing she is resting peacefully with the angels in heaven. She will be remembered for her kind heart, caring ways, warm smile, and an infectious laugh that lit up the entire room. If you knew Dora, you couldn’t help but love her!

A Visitation will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday July 30, 2020 from 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Due to current health restrictions, the funeral service will be private and will be held by invitation only on Friday July 31, 2020.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the BC Cancer Society in honour of Dora’s memory would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Gerardo, Giovanni, Dante and family,

We are heartbroken at the loss of beautiful Dora. We can only imagine your suffering, as we know the depth of one’s pain is directly proportional to the depth of one’s love. And we know you loved her so much. We trust that, in time, your faith will give you peace in knowing your beautiful angel is shining her light, watching over you, guiding you and sharing her love with you.

We are saddened that our time making memories with Dora is over. She was truly a rare and generous gift to all of us and we will miss her immensely. We are grateful for so many years of special moments with Dora. We remember with fondness her soft loving voice, her generous, compassionate and empathic heart, her warm smile and infectious laugh, her hand touching a shoulder when sharing a combined laugh, her inquisitive listening ability that made us feel loved, and of course….her cooking! Chef Dora! Her “cucina” was a Michelin 3-Star restaurant! Food prepared and shared by Dora was a gift of her love. Even more than Dora’s amazing culinary skills, we remember her as she proudly honored her Italian heritage, her love of family and her appreciation of quality time with others.

These are but a few of many treasured memories of Dora. We will honor Dora by taking her spirit with us in our hearts, and in our time spent with others…especially when we gather to share a meal. We will never forget dear and sweet Dora. Her unique gift of love and kindness will forever be in our hearts.
Ti amiamo la nostra bellissima sorella xoxo

Words can not express the sadness and pain that you are all going through having lost such a wonderful wife and mother, who couldn’t stop smiling when she spoke so proudly of you all.
Dora was a childhood friend who lived next door to me. We went to school together and continued our strong friendship throughout the years. Dora was a kind, giving, thoughtful, and loving soul. Her warm smile and laughter will never be forgotten. I lost my best friend who was taken too early, but I know she is with the angels watching over you all. Dora will forever be in my heart and will never be forgotten. Our deepest condolences, our thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

I remember beautiful Dora as a child...every Sunday we attended mass with our parents. I remember how kind her smile and eyes were. Years later, when learning she married Gerardo...I was so happy. Gerardo, I'm so sorry to you and your boys....she left much too soon. May God guide you and support you through this time. Her heart and soul will live on through those who were fortunate to have known her.

My sincerest condolences,
Maria Cavallo
