OBITUARY

Dorothy Oreskovich

August 10, 1926 – October 15, 2024
Obituary of Dorothy Oreskovich
IN THE CARE OF

Ocean View Funeral Home & Burial Park

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our Mother and Baba Dorothy Oreskovich on October 15, 2024. She passed at home peacefully at the age of 98.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Thomas, father Anton, mother Katica, brother Anton Jr. (Tony). She is survived by her four children – Constance (Douglas), Kenneth (Wendell), Kelly and Wendy (Sherman). As well, she is survived by her grandchildren – Charles, Daniel, Katherine, Jordan, Adam and Erin, and her great-grandsons Kai, Anthony, Connor and Emmett. She was also affectionately known as Dot, Mrs. O and Teta by the many people she endeared herself to. Friends and family were important to her and she was known for dropping in for a visit and lending a hand when needed.

Born Dragica Crncic in Hlapa, Croatia, she immigrated to Canada at the age of 2-1/2 and grew up in the Strathcona neighbourhood where the Slav community built a hall and kept up their cultural traditions. It was here that Dorothy’s love of music began, as a child, learning to play in the Tamburitza orchestra at the hall. She continued playing throughout her life even when the hall no longer existed and later found joy again playing with the orchestras in the Ukrainian and Russian halls.

Dorothy was a devoted mother whose cooking and baking skills were exceptional and are sorely missed. Mom would host and prepare holiday dinners by herself, long after our father had passed. Christmas has never been the same without the many containers of cookies sitting in the back room, all baked by her from scratch.

A service will be held on Wednesday, November 6 at Ocean View Funeral Home. Viewing is from 9:30 – 10:20 am and funeral service at 10:30 am. Burial and Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory can be made to the Red Cross or a charity of your choice.

Good friends, good times and family – all were important to her. We thank all of you who were a part of her life. Living with dementia in her final years, Dorothy continued to live at home as was her wish. We would like to acknowledge the loving care and support Dorothy received over the years from Bayshore caregivers – Minda, Esme, Rocio, Jocelyn, Glenda, Nelda and Cynthia - and Jean. As well, we thank all of the Vancouver Coastal Health care aides and nurses who attended to our mom during the final three years of her life.
