OCTOBER 8, 1946 - APRIL 7, 2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Egil Oddbjorn Lyngen on April 7, 2014 after a year of diagnosis with ALS.
Egil will be remembered as a devoted husband to wife, Ruby (Cortes), father to Terril Todd (Eleina Doulakis) and brother to Arve (Linda) of Campbell River, uncle to Ricky, grandfather to Dakotah Lyngen Boudreau, granduncle to Harley, Autumn and cousin to Inger Drescher (Herman) of Enderby and many relatives in Canada and Norway. He was predeceased by his parents, Klara (Almaas) and Arnt Lyngen and brother Ole. Egil was born in V. Toten, Norway on Oct 8, 1946 and the family immigrated to Canada in June 1955. After finishing high school at Enderby he studied and graduated from UBC in 1975. He was devoted to his family and uplifted others with his sense of Norwegian humour and inspired others with his goodness and kind heart. People were always drawn to his easy going nature and made an impact on everyone who came into contact with him . He was a pillar of strength and will be greatly missed.
Egil was an accomplished architect and was a member of the AIBC. He was generous in his time and volunteered in the Norwegian House Society and in the 2010 Winter Olympics for the biathlon games. He was a member of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons and had an affinity with fine art, stamp and coin collections. In the summers we would go sport fishing with his brother Arve in Campbell River.
We would like to express our heartlfelt thanks to his private caregiver, Mercy Teodoro, the ALS Society, Hannah Briemberg and her staff at GF Strong and Rehabilitation, Dr. Phillip Hanam, Dr. Rode, The Greater Vancouver Community Services and the PROP of BC.
