7 grandchildren; Troy, Sharon, Aaron, Darcy, Christina, Jodie, and Kyle along with 4 great-grandchildren; Taylor, Kylie, Annabelle, and Angus.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband Murray who also died in Richmond, BC in 1999.
Elsie was born and raised on a farm in Fairy Hill, Saskatchewan to Emma and John Gettel and was the eldest child of six. (4 brothers and 1 sister) All of her siblings predeceased her with the exception being her youngest brother, Norman Gettel. Elsie is also survived by her 3 living sister-in-laws, Pearl Gettel, Irene Gettel, and Lillian Lewko.
Elsie met her husband Murray (Nick) in Star City, Saskatchewan after the Second World War. They married in 1947 and then moved to Vancouver to seek out work and start their family.
Elsie worked numerous jobs while raising her 3 children which included health care, a donut factory as well as food and fish processing plants. Elsie’s upbringing on the farm instilled the value of hard work that carried on throughout her life, retiring at the age of 59.
Elsie enjoyed dancing, gardening, bingo, horse racing and visiting casinos. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards with family.
Elsie will be cremated at Forest Lawn Cemetery with interment with family at a later date.
The family would also like to extend their appreciation for the special care and support given by the staff of the Minoru Residence.
