With broken hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Emilio Meneghin on July 2, 2020. Loving husband to Eva, brother to Francesco (Linda), Luciana (Renzo), Milena (Alfeo), and Terenzio. Son to predeceased father Giovanni Battista and mother Sesta. A fearlessly loving father to his four sons, Jason, Derek, Daniel and Jimmy and his daughter-in-laws, Marla, Samantha and Jennifer. A passionate grandfather who would do anything for his grandchildren - Carley, Aava, Harrison, Jackson, Georgia, Max and Leo. Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and friends to many far and wide. Emilio grew up in San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Italy until he moved to Vancouver with his brother Francesco in the late 1960's where they established Meneghin Brothers Construction Co. later joining TAF Construction followed by their association with FEMO Construction. Emilio enjoyed ice fishing at the family cabin in Big Bar Lake, his garden, making his homemade wine, watching his sons and grandchildren in their sports, and spending time with his family. As a soccer enthusiast, Commercial Drive also knew him well with his many visits to take in the early morning matches. He also was an avid bird lover and built his own bird sanctuary where he raised many canaries and finches along with his good friend Joe. Emilio always enjoyed a good debate about all things politics, news and life but always ended the conversation with a grin and a smile. His cheeky smile would always be the way he would get out of trouble with his wife, Eva whom he loved for 45 years. Emilio, was the patriarch of his family, a man who fought for what was right and taught those about what was wrong. He guided with strength and kindness. We will miss him dearly. However, with all our sadness, he would insist that we continue to love each other, take good care of each other, and work hard for the things we love. He would want us all to celebrate his life, and not dwell on how we lost him too soon. He would want us to drink good wine, make homemade pizza and laugh around the big family table as we did when he was with us. We love you Emilio, son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, nonno and dear friend. We will miss you. In lieu of flowers we ask for donations to be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation.
