Eva Lai Wah Yee (née Ho), 91, of Vancouver, slipped away peacefully in the early morning on the 4th of May 2026, after a brief battle with pneumonia, closing a long life marked by quiet strength and unassuming grace.
Born in Hong Kong on the 6th of March 1935, to Shue Fong Ho and Sai Yang Pang, Eva was the seventh of eight children — a girl shaped by war and eventually the hum and heartbeat of a city she would remember with affection all her days. Eva started her schooling at Maryknoll Convent School. She graduated secondary school at St. Mary’s Canossian School in 1952 and later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Tung Wah College, answering a calling that matched her nature: to care, to steady, to soothe. At Tung Wah Hospital, she tended to patients with the calm assurance that would become her lifelong signature.
In 1958, Eva met Theodore Yee, the great love of her life. Together they built a family that crossed oceans and continents, raising four children — Edmund, Marian, Marilyn, and Favian — with devotion, discipline, and a love that revealed itself in countless small, steadfast acts.
Though she stepped away from paid work to raise her family, Eva poured her whole being into motherhood. She became the centre of her children’s world: the one who cooked, guided, comforted, and held the family together with a strength that never sought recognition, yet was always felt. Her love was the quiet architecture of their lives.
When all four children were adults, Theodore and Eva opened the Flower Gallery Florist shop. Eva arranged blooms with the same care she gave to her family, and Theo delivered them with pride.
Eva was predeceased by her beloved husband Theodore, her son Edmund (May), and all seven of her siblings. She leaves behind Marian, Marilyn (Bruce), and Favian, her cherished grandchildren Cameron, James, Sean, and Dylan, as well as countless in-laws, nieces and nephews scattered across the world — each carrying forward a piece of her gentleness, her steadiness, her light.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday the 26th of May 2026 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the chapel at Ocean View Funeral Home. This is to be followed by a funeral service at Ocean View on Wednesday the 27th of May 2026 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Eva’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, an organisation close to Eva’s heart after it supported her through Theodore’s journey with dementia, or Diabetes Canada.
