It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Francesco (Franco) Leonardo Luongo on December 3, 2020. He was born on May 4, 1939 in Cuccaro-Vetere, Salerno, Italy. He moved to Vancouver, Canada in August 1965. He married the love of his life Antonietta Merola on June 21st 1969. They had 3 children (Rolfe, Tony, and Dino). He worked as a longshoreman for over 31 years until his retirement in 2002. Following his retirement he spent most of his time enjoying and celebrating his family, especially his grandchildren.
He will be sorely missed by his loving wife Antonietta, three sons and their wives Dr. Rolfe Luongo (Nella), Dr. Tony Luongo (Jennifer) and Dino Luongo (Antonietta) and seven grandchildren, in order of birth, Claudia, Allessandra, Isabelle, Anthony, Massimo, Francesco and Stefania as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in Canada, US, and Italy. He was predeceased by his parents Raffaele and Francesca, as well as his siblings, Giuseppe, Domenico, Antonietta, Sabatino and Pietro.
He will be remembered by all as a gentle soul who always had a smile on his face. Generous to a fault, he put his family and friends above all else. A good man, who lived his life with honour, dignity, and integrity. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Francesco’s memory to St. Helen’s Church Wall of Faith. Due to Covid-19 the services are private and limited to 10 people. Those wishing to take part through the livestream may do so through the following link https://www.dignitycanada.com/burnaby/
