Gary came to visit a few years ago when this photo was taken. Gary though he was officially my 'nephew', was more like my brother. I was only 18 days older than him, and we had spent a lot of time together growing up. 
He had such a wonderful sense of humor and yet there was always a warmth in his nature. 
I have and will continue to miss him greatly.

Gary radiated happiness and was always a joy to talk to in the instructor prep room. I admired how he could always see the light and look at the positive side of things. "You can't let that get to you" is one of the things I will remember him saying to me when we were discussing some depressing world events a while ago. All of us at FIC will miss his positive attitude and caring nature.

I did not know Gary on a personal level but I did have a chance to work with him and it was clear that he truly loved and cared for his job. He was always very kind and patient with his students and colleagues. I took over his linear algebra class in the summer of 2018 and he was extremely supportive during the first few semesters to ensure a smooth transition. I always enjoyed our conversations. He will be missed.

In the summer of 2006, I met Gary in the temporary offices of FIC where we were signing contracts for the start up of the college that September. Gary became a good friend to me, and he was a fellow cat owner and animal lover. Gary was always calm, and ready with a witty comment. One day I asked Gary, “Gary what is math really?” and he answered, “It’s another way to view the world.” 

I worked in the Mathematics Department with Gary at FIC for many years. You could tell that he cared deeply about his students and tried very hard to help students succeed. He was always a delight to talk with. He will be thoroughly missed. 

I had the pleasure of working with Gary at Fraser International College for over 10 years. He was a caring and kind person. He cared about his students a lot and always went above and beyond to help his students and colleagues. I have played this piano piece in loving memory.

We are hurting with you for the loss of your beloved husband, father, grandpa and brother! Please accept our deepest sympathies in this incredibly difficult time for your family!
We'll remember Gary as a beloved co-worker who was always smiling and lit up the FIC instructors' room with positivity and sense of humour.  We also know how deeply he loved his family and cared for animals and other causes dear to his heart.  We'll miss his radiant smile, sharp mind, youthful spirit and caring heart.

Gary was a great friend and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.   RIP Gary .   Love and Hugs to Cathy, Barbara, Michelle and spouses and Braden.

Gary was truly one of the instructors I held in high regard. His unwavering passion for supporting students and cultivating an great learning environment. His spirit and influence continue to resonate with us. 
Moreover, witnessing his remarkable determination during the Sunrun was astounding – completing a challenging 10KM run. His strength encourages me to keep going.

I would like to send our condolences to Cathy and the family, Gary was a very beautiful sole, Gary was my cousin and I only had the privilege  to see him very few times but those times meant a lot to me, he came when my brother Wayne was sick and passing and Wayne really appreciated that he took the time to come see him it meant a lot, my other brother for health reasons had to fly back and forth to Vancouver hospital and again Gary and Cathy stepped forward and did so very much for us, I was really looking forward to the plans we made to see each other again but unfortunately Gary passed, R.I.P. Gary you will be greatly missed and loved.

Gary was among the first people I met when I started working at Fraser International College.  I was a student advisor then and am now the College Director.  For 16 years he was my supporter and teacher outside the classroom on my own professional journey. 

 I saw him change the lives of thousands of international students many of whom still call him their favourite university instructor.  His wisdom was given to us all with incredible generosity and his patience was limitless. 

An amazing colleague leaving a deep and meaningful legacy.....gone too soon.

Sharla Reid

Dr. Sabin retired shortly after I started my B.Eng. at Memorial.  I remember Dr. Sabin from a letter he sent me as Acting Dean, with conditional acceptance into the Faculty to start my B.Eng.  Thanks to this chance, I completed my undergrad, and M.Eng. and Ph.D. and am now a Associate Prof. of Engineering at MUN.  Many thanks to Dr. Sabin for that opportunity.  My deepest condolences to Dr. Sabin's family and friends.

Gary was more like my brother though I was his aunt. Though miles separated us we remained close in mind and heart. I will miss him greatly.
