Giovanni Pastro passed away peacefully on November 30, 2020. Born July 30, 1928 in Selva Del Montello, Italy, he immigrated to Canada in 1951, where he settled in East Vancouver. Giovanni worked tirelessly to prepare a foundation for his wife and daughter, who later joined him in 1953.
Predeceased by his sister Valina and brother Bruno, Giovanni is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Giovanna; daughter Loretta (Larry); son Franco (Dina); grandchildren Danica (Michael), Chelsea (Dan); great grandchildren Luca, Elle, Brynn, and Ariana, as well as sisters-in-law Graziosa and Margherita, many nephews, cousins, and friends in B.C., Italy, France, and Argentina.
Though not a man of many words, when he said something it was honest, and he meant it ...sometimes adding a few expletives to help get his message across.
Giovanni had a passion for work, no matter what it entailed - carpentry, forming and pouring concrete, electrical, plumbing, and if he did not know how to do it, he would figure it out. He also had a passion for raising many types of birds.
Giovanni and his beloved wife were avid gardeners. As members of the Burnaby Allotment Gardens they spent many hours growing delectable vegetables and socializing with friends.
He enjoyed music and dancing, attending the Italian banquets, meeting with friends and "dancing up a storm".
Giovanni will be sadly missed and will be forever in our hearts.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Funeral Mass can only be attended by his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C.
