November 19, 1930 – January 11, 2024
Grace was born and raised in Spokane, Washington. She graduated from Holy Names College with a degree in Education and taught elementary school for a short time. In 1955 Grace immigrated to Vancouver, Canada upon marrying the love of her life. She now rejoices with those who have gone before her: her husband of 62 years Salvatore (Sam), her parents Dominick and Vincenza Severino, brothers Jim (and wife Shirley) and Carmen Severino, sisters Joanna and Mary Ann Severino, her mother-in-law Maria Teresa Grandinetti; her brother-in-law Luigi Grandinetti (and wife Giovannina), sister-in- law Iolanda Cannata (and husband Sam), and great niece Jessica Severino.
Grace is survived by her children Teresa, Dominic (Barb), Lenny (Patti), and Vickie; her grandchildren Sarah (Amanda), Allison (Harrison), Samantha (Carl), Paul (Sarah), and Nicole; and her great grandchildren Sam, Zeke and baby boy to be born in February. Grace is also survived by sister-in-law Teresa Severino, many nieces and nephews and their large extended families.
Grace was a devout Catholic and loving matriarch of her family, setting an example for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed travelling, particularly cruising, visiting many parts of Canada, US, the Caribbean and Europe, first with Sam and then after his passing with her daughters. She was never happier than when she was in her kitchen cooking up a feast of Italian favourites or baking any number of yummy goodies. Family knew that a visit to Grace’s meant walking away with a smile on your face and a bursting tummy. Even Leo the dog benefited from her generosity! After the dishes were put away, Grace could always be found at her kitchen table doing her puzzles, playing on her iPad, reading a book or magazine or sitting in the living room watching her endless line-up of taped murder mystery shows.
We wish to thank all those who cared for Grace during her final year at VGH, St. Paul’s, and MSJ Hospitals, and Vancouver Coastal Community Health. A special thank you to her GP, Dr. Luigi Salvino.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
