It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Hang Hung Susan Chin, who passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. She was 87 years old.
Susan was born on September 23, 1938, in Guangdong, China, and was an only child. Born during the war, her family immigrated to Hong Kong to escape the conflict and settled in the Kowloon District. With limited education, she learned to sew from her mother and worked as a seamstress until she left Hong Kong.
At age 20, she courageously journeyed alone to Canada, leaving her parents behind to begin a new life with her future husband, Tommy. From the very beginning, her life was shaped by devotion, sacrifice, and love for the family she was building. Susan and Tommy married the year they met and welcomed four children.
Susan was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband, Tommy. She is lovingly remembered by her four children, as well as her eight grandchildren, and her five great-grandchildren, who were the centre of her world.
The heart of the family, Susan devoted her entire life to caring for her family and others. She supported her husband and helped with the family grocery business, worked full-time for more than two decades as a seamstress sewing purses, raised her children, and later cared for her elderly parents when they joined her in Vancouver after being separated for 13 years. Her life was defined by quiet strength and unwavering generosity. As her family grew, so did her love, extending effortlessly to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply. She never placed herself first; her thoughts were always with her children and family.
Her love for children extended beyond her own family. Despite having little, Susan consistently gave to charitable causes, driven by a sincere desire to help others. In keeping with her giving spirit, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Susan to the BC Children's Hospital Foundation, which she supported for many years, or to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation, whose care and compassion supported both her and her husband in their final days.
Everything Susan did was for her family.
Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, you taught us the true meaning of love, sacrifice, and kindness. You raised us well, and we are forever grateful. You will be deeply missed and always remembered. May you now enjoy your next journey, reunited with Dad and Grandpa, watching over us all with the same boundless love you shared so freely in life.
