Irene Marcella (Née Hall) Adamowski

February 21, 1930November 8, 2020

Irene Adamowski passed away peacefully at Menno Home in Abbotsford, B.C. on November 8, 2020 at the age of 90.

Irene is survived by her children: Diana, David, daughter-in-law Audrey, and her granddaughter Shane - all from BC. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Lloyd Coughtry and Edward Adamowski.

Irene was born on February 21, 1930 in Kitchener, Waterloo, Ontario to Frances and Margaret Hall. She travelled to England with her best friend Colleen and went to Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953 and then stayed with family and worked for 2 years. Irene married Henry Lloyd Coughtry in 1959. Over the next five years, before Henry (Lloyd) passed away, the couple welcomed two children into their home. Her children remember Irene as an energetic, fun loving mother who encouraged them to be creative. She was a dedicated mother who stayed home to provide a stable home for her children.

In her youth, Irene was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting landscapes and drawing portraits. Irene loved getting together with friends to go bowling, play darts, and gamble at the casinos, which she did until her late 80’s. She even organized buses to take seniors to the casinos in the US for over a decade. She was a generous and cheerful person who loved being involved with people and who was passionate about singing with the Silvertones. She was an active and dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion and often volunteered in Fraser Lake and Maple Ridge.

It is Irene’s wish that there be no funeral nor memorial service. The family would like to thank all who were involved with Irene during her lifetime for the enjoyment they added to her life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society at 565 W 10th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Z 4J4.

I got to know Irene and Eddy when he worked for us at our garage. They were such fun-loving people and we went on some gambling trips with them. Dave and I thought the world of both. I am so sorry to hear of Irene’s passing. My deepest love and sympathy.
