July 8, 1921 – January 23, 2015
Mom passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 93. Jean is survived by her 6 children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Jean was born on her family’s farm just outside of Duvernay, Alberta. She grew up with 5 older brothers and 4 older sisters. Married in 1943, Mom and Dad moved to Burnaby BC with their first child in 1947.
Mom balanced her life with 6 kids, a husband, and all the demands of running a household with pride. She loved all of us and will be missed, but we have fond memories of her.
Mom lived in her house until she was 91, and then moved into New Vista Care Home in January 2013.
Many staff members of New Vista would call Mom, “Auntie Jean”. They would remark about her kindness and gentle nature when she was well. She would tell them stories of her life on the farm and about cooking for her family. Mom’s gentleness was at times interrupted from the effects of her dementia.
We want to thank all of Mom’s caregivers at New Vista for the outstanding care they provided to Mom, especially over the last few weeks. The care they provided to Mom and her family is greatly appreciated and they should be proud of the work they do.
An interment with her children will be at Forest Lawn on February 3, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mom’s name to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia to help those living with Dementia.
