Our brother in Christ, Jim Tam, was born on July 26, 1940, in the district of Kaiping, Guangdong in China. He was the eldest of five children, with three sisters and one brother. He moved to Hong Kong in 1959 where he met Mecky Yu. They married in 1963, and together they raised three daughters and one son. Jim immigrated with his family to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1969 and he lived there until his retirement in 2006. Subsequently, he and Mecky moved to Vancouver, British Columbia to be with their children. Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cared deeply for his family and relatives. In his lifetime, Jim was an incredibly hard-working individual who served the church wholeheartedly with faith and dedication in Christ. In 2019, Jim's health began to deteriorate with kidney failure, requiring frequent hospital visits for dialysis. God's grace and his steadfast faith in Jesus enabled him to face his health challenges with strength and perseverance. Throughout this time, he was grateful for his wife’s and children’s tender loving care and continued support. Jim passed away suddenly but peacefully at the age of 83, on the evening of October 30, 2023, surrounded by his loving family as he began his eternal life journey to our Heavenly Father. Jim is survived by his wife Mecky (Yu) Tam; four children – Mae (Peter Tsang), Diane (Scott Frinskie), David (Jan Mark), and Helen (Ian Mackenzie); and three grandchildren – Joshua Tsang, Elyse Tsang, and Caleb Tam.
