Mrs. Joan McLean

"I am rejoining the ones I loved, and I am waiting for those I love."

It is with our heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our much loved mum, grandmother and great grandmother, Joan McLean, just weeks before her 96th birthday. On Wednesday March 31, 2021, Joan peacefully passed away at Queens Park Care Centre in New Westminster.

Joan was born in London England and came to Canada in 1945 as a war bride with husband John and became mother to 12 children. Predeceased by husband John (1981) 5 (five) sons, Robert, Bruce, Gerald, Brien, Stephen, 1(One) Grandson Michael, 2 (Two) Great Grandson’s Caleb McLean and Isaiah Gillespie.

Joan was survived by sons Daniel (Judy), Rodney (LeeAnne), Richard (Cissy), and her four daughters; Marlynn Couture, Deborah Anne McLean, Doreen Manning (Rick) and Janice McLean.

Joan was a proud Grandmother to 25 grandchildren and Great Grandma to 35 and Great Great Grandmother to 2.

Mum was an amazing woman with a silent strength and courage. She overcame many challenges in life, moving to Canada as a young woman and raising 12 children. She taught us all to preserver and to never give up. Mom enjoyed her retirement years travelling a little bit and volunteering as Chair for the BC Senior Games for 6 years. She enjoyed her many friends and spending time at the New Westminster Century House.

No service at this present time…In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Recreation Department at Queens Park Care Centre.

We are so grateful to the Queens Park Centre Recreation Team and Nursing staff who showed mom nothing but kindness and love. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

A second memory of Mom McLean remains vivid. She flew from B.C. with Gerry & Td, good friend Kay and met the rest of her group- Bob & Joyce (me), grand-daughters Vicky & Cathy and others- on the Crown Princess, September 2007. Off to the Turks & Caicos, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Bermuda we sailed. Mom was happy as Bob & I renewed our Wedding Vows; a bit of champagne flowed that evening. 'Under the Stars' movies at night reminded us of the old drive-in-movies and the hot tub visits were relaxing. But one evening the Sabatini Restaurant's 17 course dinner was just too much. Well now, dear Mom McLean 'we are but a breath'; your earthly bonds are severed and your travels & toils at an end here. You have begun your joyous journey with God and the Angels. Love you always & forever my dear Mom McLean.

Mum god needed a special angel and called you home sooner than we expected. We know you are at peace now.
Thank you for the love and support you gave me and my girls.
I was blessed because you treat me like a daughter.
I made a promise to you 41 years ago to look after your boy, I will keep that promise until I take my last breath.Maybe that’s why you you thought I was special.❤️
I have so many good memories that I will cherish from our Travel’s together, our wine times our late night chats and to many more to mention.
Rest Easy Mum 💙until we meet again. Love you forever❤️

Mom McLean really liked to travel & September 2009 she, son Gerry & Td, son Bob & Joyce (me) & grand-daughter Cathy, embarked on the Carnival Spirit Ship for an Alaskan Cruise. From Bingo to Karaoke, from buffet dining to formal evening fun and from Casino minutes to Vegas-style show hours, our week whizzed by! At Juneau City we spotted killer & humped-back whales; then were awe-struck passing the 12 mile-long John Hopkins Glacier; at Skagway City we hopped off & on the White Pass & Yukon Railway Train Ride; and at Ketchikan City we marvelled at the tall totem poles. We had been the five lucky travellers to go with Mom McLean that week!

To my dearest cousin Joan

So many miles between us, but so many treasured memories of your visits to London with the girls and our visit to BC.

I’m so grateful to God that He kept us connected through the years and to you for being such a blessing to us both.

Can’t wait until we meet again in The Kingdom

With strongest love and true affection

Our family had the honour of getting to know this beautiful sole and spending time with her. We loved her stories, love of people and her BIG smile. We called her “Mom” and our daughters and Grandkids called her “Gramma Joan”. She had the BIGGEST heart, love of everyone, and a beautiful smile. She will be missed. Our deepest heartfelt condolences to her family.
Love to all Mel, Sue and Family ❤️

My Mama...My friend.

I am so proud of you and how you always were so easy and willing to do whatever it took to get things done.

You were always so kind to me and always worried if I was happy. How could I not be happy having you as my mom... you always encouraged me, cuddle me and stood by me no matter what.

I will miss your sweet smile and gentle touch. I am so grateful that you will not have to suffer anymore. You are free to fly with the angels.

May God keep you safe until I see you again.

Forever in my heat.... I love you.
