Mr. Jose Mei Cheong Wong passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Saturday, May 3, 2025, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is survived by his devoted wife, Miu San Wong, and his four children: Jose Antonio Wong (wife Samantha Fu), Manuel Wong, Alyssa Wong Karatimus (husband Alex Karatimus), and Katia Wong (husband Thomas Man). He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Ayden Wong, Liam Wong, Lucas Karatimus, Julia Karatimus, and Amélie Man.
Jose was a loving father and grandfather, dedicated to teaching his family the values of respect, integrity, generosity, honesty, kindness, love, and spirituality.
Born in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China, Jose was the last of thirteen siblings. He grew up and worked in Hong Kong at a very young age. He also spent his adult years in Costa Rica where, by serendipitous fate, he met his beloved wife. Together, they created many fond and cherished memories through their close families, friends and family businesses. Eventually, they moved to Canada to provide a better future for their children. In Canada, Jose continued his entrepreneurial journey, working alongside his family and friends, most notably the family store, restaurant, and renovation business.
Beyond his professional life, Jose was a creative man of many passions and interests. He took pride in his many self-taught skills and loved working with his hands to bring joy, happiness, and support to everyone around him. He had a love for music and gardening, which brought him peace and satisfaction. He also greatly enjoyed playing mahjong, a game that brought him closer to friends and family, providing him with both camaraderie and joy.
Jose’s big and generous heart, along with his unwavering integrity, was known to all who knew him. He never hesitated to help others and always stood up for justice and integrity. His endless generosity and love for his family and friends will always be remembered. His memory will forever live on in our hearts. May his spirit find eternal rest and peace.
