I don't know what else to say that hasn't been said about the exceptional woman I call Mama Cristobal, except maybe even when someone is gone, you will always remember how they made you feel. Mama made me feel I was one of hers, one of her tribe, and what could be better than that.

From my many encounters with Mama Cristobal, she always exuded heartwarming energy that made everyone around her feel welcomed and loved. Those times I had the chance to have dinner with her and her daughter, Tita Gloria, are memories that I will cherish forever. Though in her later years she was never able to remember me, nor any other members of my family, her motherly spirit never faded. To Tita Gloria and the rest of your family, I offer my sincerest condolences, and pray that you all find comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with your dad in heaven.

With love,

Jillian

I had the pleasure of knowing Mama Josefina with her bright smile and positive energy through her wonderful daughter, Gloria, who impacted my life in many ways outside of the piano. On the occasions that I met her, Mama Josefina was a wonderful person who lit up the room around her as she was always there to embrace the music no matter who and where it came from, and she will be greatly missed. I send my deepest condolences to the Cristobal family, may she rest in peace.

All my love,
Rowina

I was fortunate enough to have known Mama Josefina through Gloria who was the piano teacher of my niece for 11 years. Though I didn’t talk to her much, every time I met her at Gloria’s house or at recital events, I was attracted by her quiet dignity and moved by her infectious smile. She will be greatly missed!

I first met Gloria in the 6th grade and I fell in love with her family especially her parents the minute I met them shortly after that. Mama Josefina always welcomed me into their gracious home and I have very fond memories of spending time there. May God continue to bless this wonderful family.

We will continue to pray for the repose of Mama Josefina’s soul. We are sure that she is smiling down on us from Heaven where she is with Uncle Vic.

Love and hugs,
Marilyn & David

Josefina Cristobal. What a loving grand lady!
Full of joy and laughter. So gracious to all.
Such a loving wife and mother, and friend to all.

Remember her past husband, that Vic Cristobal?
That music arranger, band leader, virtuosic piano player?
One of a kind in the world of music?

Josefina provided the home for him and their children.
A home seeped in love and guidance.
The children, grandchildren, and one great grandchild ...
The in-laws, extended family, and so many friends ...
We will cherish memories of Josefina forever.

Walking with her in the mall, now that was an adventure!
Every thirty steps, she knew someone!
"I know you"! would be her whooping hello.
And right there in that mall, this noisy reunion would take place.
Later, another thirty steps, another noisy reunion.
Small children? She would fuss over them.
Can I take home with me? She would ask.
And no dog ever escaped from her smiling face.
She would have taken all dogs home if she had been allowed to.
Eileen's little Hugo was blessed to have Josefina as his matriarch.

And Yes ... in later years, her memory was not there anymore.
But ... so what.
Because her smiling face, her laughter, graciousness, manners ...
dignity, her good taste ... all were still there ...
That real important stuff was Untouchable.

That is what made Josefina Cristobal a most remarkable person.
And we give our thanks for that.
