

Josephine “Jo” Rekart, age 71, died on February 1st, 2023 at St. Paul’s Hospital after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. A resident of Vancouver since the 1970s, Jo was born and raised in Fiji. She completed a bachelor’s degree before moving to Vancouver with her mother and siblings, later obtaining a Masters degree at UBC and PhD at the University of London. She lived in London for several years, where she met her husband. They eventually moved back to Vancouver together, raising two children. Jo worked as a Senior Policy Analyst at WorkSafe BC, a job that she was very passionate about.
Jo loved to travel internationally and was able to make friends in any situation, often returning from her trips with many new acquaintances. She was an avid photographer and loved using her camera to explore different cultures as well as nature. She spent years learning classical guitar and enjoyed taking lessons and playing performances. She was also very caring and spent much of her time looking after her mother in her old age.
After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Summer 2021, Jo spent many months on chemotherapy and eventually radiation but ultimately succumbed to the disease. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, and was able to visit with many of her close friends during her final days. She is survived by her two children, Emma and Edward.
A catholic funeral mass for Josephine Tip Moy will be held Friday, February 10, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at St. John the Apostle Parish, 5457 Trafalgar Street, Vancouver, BC V6N 1C1. Following the catholic funeral mass will be an entombment service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC V5J1A4.
