Jovana Baldigara

Jovana was born in Soline, Otok Krk in Croatia on June 22, 1912 and passed peacefully October 14, 2017.

She was predeceased by her six brothers and sisters, her husband Bartol Sulina, son Jerry, and Tony Baldigara.

Jovana emigrated to Canada in 1936 and settled in Strathcona where many lifelong friendships took root. She overcame many hardships in life, but always remained strong, hard-working and positive.

She loved life and her family and will be remembered as a generous and happy lady. She loved her vegetable garden and flowers. Her garden was a bounty of tomatoes plants supported by her grandson’s many broken hockey sticks. We will miss the warmth of her open kitchen where wine, gnocchi, goulash, coffee, cakes and her delicious plum jam were in abundant supply.

She is survived by her loving daughter Olga (Esad), daughter-in-law June, grandchildren Dena (Rob), Dean (Kathy), Jerry (Carla), great grandchildren Nic, Quinn, Jayda and Jerry Jr. Oreskovich, Crncich and Malat families, lifelong friends Larry and Shirley Politano, Godchildren John and Maryann and many other extended family members in Canada, Croatia and France.

Our sincere gratitude goes to Dr. Craigmyle and the nurses and staff at Willingdon Care Centre where Jovana lived for the past 7 years. Special gratitude to long time family Drs. Sylvia Ducceschi and Jay Slater.

Jovana enjoyed many special milestone birthday parties. Thank you to all who shared these special times with her.

We often heard her say “be good to each other, love each other and everything will be alright. You ‘haf’ to”. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jovana’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Be good to each other.

Graveside service will be October 28 at noon. Ocean View, Fountain Estate.
