Kam Liu, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. Born in Guangdong, China, Kam carried with him a lifelong love of the land, his culture, and above all, his family.
Over 30 years ago, Kam made the journey to Canada, settling in beautiful Coquitlam, British Columbia, where he built a life filled with warmth, and tradition. He is survived by his beloved wife of many decades, their five children, and eleven grandchildren.
After moving to Hong Kong in 1959, Kam Liu began as a farmer, and later on worked as a dim sum chef at his own restaurant. Kam retired in Canada where he continued growing an abundance of vegetables and fruits that fed and nurtured his family and friends. During his retirement, Kam Liu often volunteered at the S.U.C.C.E.S.S agency supporting the local Chinese senior community.
It was also important to Kam Liu to be involved and present in the lives of his family. Every year, he and Kang Mui would travel to Texas and Hong Kong to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
Kam Liu was also a strong influence for the preservation of Chinese culture of his family members that did not live in Asia. He did so through the many meals he cooked with care for Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and every occasion in between.
To his eleven grandchildren, Kam Liu leaves behind the greatest inheritance a grandfather can give — a sense of where you come from, and the pride to carry it forward.
May he rest in peace.
