Katie Cvetinic passed away on Wednesday, February 10 at the age of 88.
Beloved wife to the late Tomislav Cvetinic and survived by her dear brother, Joseph Sokola. Dearest mother to sons George and Lue and daughter Sylvia. Cherished grandmother of Christyna, Caitlynne, Savannah and Kianna. Cherished great grandmother of Alexander and Danielle (Dani).
Katie had a compassionate heart and when a friend's wife had passed, she lovingly raised his three daughters, Anna, Eva and Julianna, until he remarried. To her dying breath, they remained grateful to her and remained in contact with her even though they lived in a different country. They thought of Katie as their mother.
Katie was born on January 18, 1933 in Iriq, Yugoslavia. She married her husband, Tomislav Cventinic, on January 6, 1952. Eva Kungl, sister of Katie's mother, Adelhaida, kindly helped sponsor them to come to Canada. They immigrated to Canada on December 12, 1968, arriving with sons George and Louie, a couple of suitcases and clothes on their backs. Sylvia was born in 1970. Katie got a job at Szasz's restaurant because of her amazing cooking skills. In 1979, she and Tomislav brought a bakery in Richmond, BC-- Tucker Bakery. With their dedication and hard work the bakery flourished and in 1989, they sold it and retired.
Katie was a devout believer who prayed and read her Bible everyday. She loved music, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She would often be found in her lovely garden surrounded by beautiful flowers. Everyone loved the elicious meals she prepared using her recipes from the "old country."
Katie doted her children and grandchildren and she will always be fondly treasured in their hearts.
