Peter is survived by his spouse Michelle Mi Wah Chan; daughters Fiona Au and Cherry Au; his sisters Yin Chun Au and Estella Yin Ling Au of Hong Kong; his brothers-in-law Fu Wang Chan and Andrew Ping Yiu Chan of Hong Kong; and other beloved extended family members. In the days leading up to his passing, he was surrounded by his wife and children, and cared for by the dedicated team at Holy Family Long-Term Care (LTC) Home in Vancouver, BC.
Born in 1950 in Guangzhou, China, Peter eventually moved to Hong Kong before immigrating overseas to Vancouver, BC with his family in 1997. He was a gentle and introverted husband and father who held a stoic presence in any environment he was in. A patient man of few words and mediator at heart, he was oft not seen without a smile on his face that hid a secret playful personality. Peter worked hard as a salesman at Sunny Electronics upon moving to Canada before shifting gears and adapting to being a stay-at-home dad when his health began to decline. Rummaging around and working with his hands
were activities of great interest to Peter (especially in his later days), but he also enjoyed balancing this with relaxing nights in watching Cantonese television programming. He regularly attended Christian church services with his wife and daughters as they grew up, and he enjoyed the weekly family time afterwards as they would head to a restaurant for a hearty lunch together. One thing that has always remained unchanged about Peter is his affinity for sweets; there was not a day that he would ever decline an offering of his favourite ice cream, mango pudding, Chinese sweet soup, or cake! Simple pleasures made him happy in life, and Peter will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Special thank you to the interdisciplinary care staff at Holy Family LTC Home, Vancouver General Hospital, Mount Saint Joseph Hospital, and Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) community care services for the ongoing care provided over the past 8 years or so. Additionally, we would like to thank Vancouver Christian Logos Church (VCLC) brothers and sisters, including the Pastor, for their many years of caring towards Michelle and Peter. The family also extends appreciation towards the Ocean View Funeral Home team for their post-mortem support; Peter will be laid to rest at Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, BC on February 12th, 2022 following a memorial service at 9:30am on the same day.
