Kwok Sham Daniel Man passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2026, at the age of 92. Born in 1933 in Hong Kong, he was the eldest of ten children, with six brothers and three sisters. His early years were marked by resilience and perseverance, as his education was interrupted by the Second World War when the family sought refuge in Macau during the occupation of Hong Kong. After the war, the family returned home, where he completed high school and graduated in 1951.
With a keen interest in mathematics and science, Daniel pursued studies in surveying and building technology at Hong Kong Technical College. Following graduation, he began a long and distinguished career with Hongkong Land, where he worked for 32 years until retiring in 1988. Throughout those years, he witnessed the remarkable transformation of both the company and Hong Kong itself, while forming many lasting friendships.
Christian faith was a guiding force in Daniel’s life. As an active member of the Methodist Church in Hong Kong, he participated in fellowship and sang in the church choir. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Wai Yee. They married in 1961 and were grateful to celebrate their Diamond Anniversary together a few years ago. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Grace, Michael and Jerry, who brought immense warmth and joy to their lives.
In 1991, Daniel and Wai Yee moved their family to Canada and made their home in Burnaby. Family remained at the heart of his life, and he especially cherished spending time with his grandson, Timothy.
In retirement, Daniel and his wife enjoyed traveling the world together, visiting every continent except Antarctica. He also picked up golf and treasured the many three-generation golf trips shared with family.
Daniel excelled at strategy games such as Chinese chess, bridge, and mahjong, and was an enthusiastic participant in many sports, including badminton and bowling. Yet table tennis remained his lifelong passion. Beyond playing recreationally, he competed in tournaments throughout much of his life and took great pride in winning several titles over the years.
In his final years, Daniel was grateful to be part of the Fair Haven community. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff for their care, kindness, and support.
Daniel will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be remembered for his gentle smile, enduring spirit and devotion to family.
A funeral service will be held at 10AM on Thursday, May 28th at Ocean View Funeral Home - Chapel, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fair Haven Homes Society or Chown Memorial and Chinese United Church.
