Born September 23, 1935 in Ciganka, Croatia, passed away peacefully July 1, 2025 in Vancouver after a short illness. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Kula, Vojvodina in Yugoslavia, now Serbia. Parents were Antal Eper and Anna Rometch. He was the 4th child of 6 – Katica, Antal, Ana, Lajos, Erzsebet and Jozsef. Jozsef is now the only living sibling.
He met and married Zlatica Bukvic in 1956. They just celebrated their 69th Wedding anniversary in May. He then served 2 long years in the army and came back to Kula to settle down and start a family. They welcomed their first and only child, Ibolja (Violet, Ljubica) in 1959. They built their own home in Kula in 1961, then in 1966 decided to try a new life in Germany. They lived their for over one year and then wanted to see Canada/America in 1967. They moved the family with two small suitcases to Vancouver, BC and have lived here ever since.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Zlatica; daughter Ibolja (Violet, Ljubica) Ledingham and her spouse Bruce Ledingham; Grandchildren: Bruce (Jr.) Ledingham and spouse Sarah, and Alexander Ledingham and spouse Kim Anh, who are expecting their first child in October, Lajos’s first great-grandson.
Lajos or Louie, as he was known to his English friends, was a warm, friendly, jovial and generous man who spoke with everyone he met on the street and in his neighbourhood. They were also blessed with many lifelong friends and their extended families. He loved to spend time with people, have a laugh, his garden, maybe even a dance, watch hockey (Boston Bruins, his favourite team) and most of all his wife’s good cooking. He was always ready and willing to roll up his sleeves and lend a helping hand, no matter what. They were very devoted to their families back in Kula and travelled their many times to visit and support their parents and siblings. They travelled numerous times to Reno, Hawaii, Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Disneyland.
Lajos was a very simple man – to him family was everything first and always. We love you so much and will miss you every day !!
