We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather, dear husband, friend and leader, Len Yet Lowe. Len was born on September 10th, 1935 in Guangdong, China and arrived in Canada at the age of 7. He was educated in Toronto, graduating in electronics the Radio College of Canada and headed north soon after to start his first job as an electronic technician at the DEW Line (Distant Early Warning), a co-venture between the American and Canadian military that can detect missiles coming from north of the Arctic. Having served 5 years in the bitter cold in a desolate military camp of the Canadian North, Len returned to Hong Kong to marry Elaine and then ventured to Vancouver in 1964 to start a new life. Len worked a very honest and hard working life, taking three jobs to get himself grounded and established, following his philosophy to success, “Hard work, determination and most of all, sincerity, honesty and integrity”. In 1972, he started a very successful retail television business. Len was involved in many philanthropic endeavors within the community and was dedicated to several charitable organizations. He was active in federal, provincial and municipal politics, the Vancouver Chinatown Lions Club and served on the board of directors for the BC Trade & Development Corporation Board of Directors/BC Enterprises Centre , Chinese Cultural Centre, SUCCESS, Salvation Army, Jewish National Foundation, the Alcohol & Drug Education Services and the Canada Day Committee where he served as Vice President for over 5 years. As a BC trade and development board member, Len’s involvement was a huge catalyst in helping stimulate the local economy and shaping the landscape of Vancouver’s False Creek waterfront as it stands today.
Len was always an extremely generous and caring person who would give the shirt off his back to someone whom he felt was in need. His commitment to volunteerism and enthusiasm in helping others has inspired those around him to do the same. We will forever be proud to have been a part of the legacy he leaves behind. He will be greatly missed. Len is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elaine and his five children, Eileen (John), Martin (Mamie), Christine (Travis), Janice (Michael), Lorraine (Eric) and his grandchildren, Emie, Mya, Miles and Malia.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Vancouver General Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29th, 2015 at 1pm at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation www.heartandstroke.bc.ca or the Kidney Foundation of Canada- www.kidney.ca.
