My mom loved to travel and explore new things. I remembered at Alaska, Ketchikan someone released their pet tortoise in front of a store and when she saw it she ran there and started patting the giant tortoise. In Japan, when she saw a group of Japanese students crowding around a red bean cake kiosk she walked over and asked them what it was. She quickly became good friends with the students and they took a picture with her with the generic “v” symbol. She was full of energy as well. I will always remember how she would sing along when her favorite Beetles song was playing on the radio and how she would jump up and down in front of the TV praying that Luongo would save that goal. I could go on. These are precious memories now of the passionate person I feel privileged to call my mom. 

Mom I will remember you most as the clean Mrs Chan, as one nurse would put it, and the brave courageous tiny little lady full of perseverance to survive. Your unconditional love and care for me made it very difficult to watch helplessly as you suffered through your battle with cancer. For many years you put up with the side effects of chemotherapy.  Through all the pain and discomfort you never said you would give up. Instead you were always smiling and told me you weren't in pain. As things got more complicated and options became fewer and more invasive you never backed down. You always chose the more invasive option. I know you did that because you loved Maria and me so much that you would do anything to be with us longer. Thank you mommy. Thank you for showing me how to live life with courage. 

I love you mommy!

I know my life will be difficult without you but I know you will always be around me guiding me through my every step. Mom, promise me you will watch over me in heaven and guide and protect me.  I love you mommy thank you so much for all that you have done for me. We will meet again in heaven.

My mother was a loving and kind-hearted person.  She was family orientated and would put everyone first before herself.  My mother always wanted the best for my career, so ever since I was young, she made sure I was well disciplined by putting me in a private school.  She would rather do more overtime at work on weekends and not eat at fancy restaurants or go on vacation to save enough money for my sister and I to finish school and get into university in hopes of a better life for our future.  I remember my mother took a day off work for my pharmacy entrance interview to keep me calm, make sure I looked my best and be the first person to know how I did.  She had to comfort me because I thought I did poorly, but a month later, she had the biggest smile on her face because I got in.  She knew all her hard work throughout her working years was not wasted.

My mother enjoyed life and was very fun to be around.  Our favourite pastime together was going shopping.  At the end of the evening, after we bought all our clothes, we would usually re-try them on and mix and match with the other clothes we had at home and catwalk in our living room which has a huge mirror.  She knows me so well that she was able to buy an evening gown for one of my university galas without me having to be there.  I really can't imagine anyone else who would be able to do that besides her.

My mother was a courageous fighter against her battle with cancer.  Faith and trust in God has helped her through this challenging journey, which she walked with all her loving family members and friends.  We were given the bad news before I graduated from university.  I really didn't want to loose my mother, so I prayed to God.  Amazingly, all my prayers got answered in the next few years.  My mother got better, attended both my sister and my graduation, she went on 3 pilgrimages, 2 of which were with me to Spain.  There was never a minute wasted in the last 6 years amidst her chemotherapy treatments.  There were difficult times, but her endless love for us gave her strength to continue her fight.  I'm truly inspired by the power of my mother's inner strength.  No matter how difficult or hopeless the situation she faced, she fought with a calm, lighthearted demeanour and a smile on her face and never gave up.  Mommy, you have not only inspired me, but many others who have known you in this lifetime.  I will do the same when faced with a difficult situation.  

Mommy, Elsie and I were physically your guardian angels on earth, protecting you.  Now that you are in heaven, you'll be our guardian angels watching over us and guiding us.  Mommy I love you and will miss you forever!  We promise to meet again in heaven.

Beyond this darkness and sorrow of time, wishing you all your family: Ray, Maria and Elise all in peace and everything you need is God with you during this difficult time.
Our dear friend, Lisa, your generous, kind and thoughtfully is a comfort memory to us will always have a space in our heart.  Our happiness memories comes our remembering when the days we were young in Hong Kong.
I admired your strongly determination for fighting disease even though it was a long walk but you never give up.
Lisa, rest in peace.

Dear Chan Kit Kwong,

I extend my condolences to you and members of your family.  John Hui frequently mentions about you in his messages to me.  Sorry that I didn't have chance to meet Lisa.  We haven't met each other since the 1960s, a long time.  Hope to meet you one of these days.

Sincere condolences to the Chan family. I will always remember Lisa as a cheerful, optimistic and kind-hearted lady. Mourn her passing, but rejoice in her life and know that her soul is now in a better place.

I will always remember auntie Lisa's smile and kindness.  Her voice still rings clear in my head from when I would go to Vancouver and visit.  Seeing her in the hospital brought tears to my eyes but I am comforted knowing she is now resting in God's arms.  Your memory will go on forever!

I knew Aunt Lisa for only two years since I joined the extended family through Elaine. I remember her energy and enthusiasm on our wedding day. She had such a servant heart! At our tea ceremony, she was helping the whole time, only stopping briefly when we had to serve her tea as witnessed in the photo. Aunt Lisa was a vibrant lady. And even through difficult times, we saw her facing her battles with strength and a smile.
To Maria, Elsie and Uncle Ray, my prayers go to you. May God's blessings pour over each of you with hope, love, peace and unity.

My heartfelt condolences to the Chan family.  It was a privilege to assist you at the hospital during the final weeks of Lisa's life.  Maria & Elsie, it was obvious that your love brought your mom much comfort and peace during this difficult time. My thoughts are with you and the entire Chan family.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. LISA was a wonderful person with many good natures I wish I could see in all people.  She consistently was kind, caring, thoughful and a gentle soul.  while she faced the situation she was in with grace, dignity and quiet courage and at the same time she gave her full support and encouragement to the others with hope to fight the battles. My late husband and I were truly admired her big heart and thankful for her kind words and companionship during my husband's last journey.  
I always enjoyed getting together with her and will cherish those memories. Lisa, we will love you and miss you always, I know your family meant the most to you.

Maria, Elsie and Ray, I want you to know I will be grieving with you at the loss of such a beautiful woman and good friend.

i would like to extend my condolences to the family and friends of Lisa.  I worked with Lisa in the Office at Acme Labs in Data Checking and signing certificates.  She use to get so excited when she found a mistake that i had missed during data checking where I said i would give her $5 for each data I overlooked thinking it would make me better at what i do.
