

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Loi Hei Ma who passed at home at age 89. She is survived by her husband, Fo Choi Lam, of 68 years of marriage; seven children and their spouses, Chung Man and Choi Fong Chan, Pui Fong and Che Hon Mak, Yin Fong Lam, Lai Fong and Jun Yan Li, Yu Pak and Susan Lam, Yu Tung and Ching Lam, and Sau Fong Lam; her fourteen grandchildren, Ho Ching Chan, Ming Wai Chan, Ming Ching Chan, Wing Yan Mak, Ka Chun Mak, Hin Hang Li, Kok Yee Li, Shirley Lam, Cynthia Lam, Sze Yue Lam, Ho Ching Lam, Ho Shing Lam, Samuel Ng and Lydia Ng; and her six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, sister and many nieces and nephews. All of those she loved and touched deeply.
Loi Hei was born in China, married in 1952 and raised her family in Hong Kong. She was a devoted wife and dedicated mother who centered her life around the well-being of her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in raising a close knit, strong and supportive family. She taught her children to be kind, honest, independent, hard-working and generous. She was proud of her children and grandchildren’s achievements.
After retiring in 1993, Loi Hei and her husband immigrated to Vancouver, Canada to enjoy the rest of her life. She had a passion for gardening and looked forward to the spring time to start her outdoor garden. She planted a variety of flowers and vegetables which attracted many neighbors to stop by and enjoy them. During harvest time, she shared her vegetables with friends and neighbors.
Loi Hei believed in Taoism. She followed the principles of Taoism and became a vegetarian. She also cooked food for those sick neighbours and elderly. Her genuine caring, kind and generous spirit always made her to help those in need even when she was not in the best financial situation. She was full of love which enable her to make friends everywhere. Her inner strength and beautiful character are a source for her family to live on to continue her legacy.
She will be loved and forever missed. The funeral service will be on December 30, 2020 at 10 AM at Ocean View Funeral Home and the burial will follow at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, B.C.
