It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Loo May Yee (born March 27, 1919), predeceased by husband Fong Yee and son Joseph Pak Poy Yee.
Loo May Yee left us peacefully on the morning of April 21, 2020 at Mount Saint Joseph’s Hospital ECU. She quietly celebrated her 101st birthday in March.
She is survived by sons Martin (Rosa Kitty) and Pak Shang (Yukari), daughter in law Carla and daughter Mary (Kenneth). Grandchildren Priscilla (Jeff), Annabelle, William (Zenla), Angela (Felix), Gregory (Annie), Katherine (Stanley), Branden and Joshua. Great grandchildren Chloe, Milo, Zira, Zieran, Oliver, Emerie, Abigail and Greyson.
Loo May was born in Guangdong province, China and married Fong Yee when he went back to China. Fong Yee at that time was in Suva, Fiji. They went back to Suva in the early forties where Fong Yee operated Heap Hing Café. In 1955, Fong Yee decided to send Loo May and their three children to Hong Kong for education. She took care of them on her own and returned to Suva in 1959.
Loo May operated a produce stall in the market where her children helped after school and weekends. Pak Shang was born a couple of years before coming to Canada.
The family emigrated to Vancouver in the mid sixties where they settled down. Loo May worked at the Vancouver Airport CP Air flight kitchen until her retirement some 35 years ago.
Loo May was a loving, unassuming and caring woman who was hard working in between raising a family. She passed onto her children and grandchildren her values of strength, kindness, generosity, compassion and even feistiness, which we now proudly see in her great grandchildren.
We love her and will miss her immensely.
A private service for the family will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 10:00am.
