Our beloved Lourdes Gurat passed away on Feb 16, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband, Sebastian Gurat, and two daughters, Socorro and Helen. She will be greatly missed by her sons, Efren and George, her daughters, Marietta and Lorna, her grandchildren, Melissa, Ashley, Andres, Danielle, Waverly and Dylan, and also her daughter in laws, Richilda and Leanne, and her son in law, Paul.
Born on Feb 5, 1935 in Ilagan, Isabela, Philippines, she was the youngest of six siblings. She arrived in Canada on Aug 28th, 1972 to join our dad. With four kids in tow, she came to a new country to start a better life. She fought through the challenges of English being her second language and finding jobs to help support the family. This shows the silent strength our mom had.
Family, friends and co-workers will always remember her for her kindness, beautiful heart and most especially for her talent in the kitchen. No matter how hard someone tries to replicate her dishes, they never taste the same. When she worked at Fair Haven as a Cook, her pandesal and pancit were even added to the menu because staff and residents enjoyed it so much. Her grandchildren will cherish the memories of baking and laughing with their grandma.
She lived for the love of her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing majong with her closest friends and her Scratch and Win tickets. She loved her Vegas trips, with the family, where she was able to attend numerous shows and play her favourite game, blackjack. We are happy that she was able to travel to many places, with our dad and their friends. When relaxing at home, she would wind down with her favourite game shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Our family would like to give thanks to everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. The meals, comforting messages and prayers helped us get through our days. Thank you for sharing our grief and pain.
Special thanks to Jona for providing exceptional care for mom, for becoming part of the family and for showing mom love, respect, and compassion.
May mom be reunited with dad and our family who have gone before her.
