On December 13, 2023, at the age of 88, Lucio lost a long-fought 2-year battle to pancreatic cancer. Left to mourn him is his adoring wife Luisa, his sons: Luigi (Susan) and Danny (Rita), his grandchildren: Deanna (Travis), Lucas (Stefanie), Leanne (Noah), Andrew (Kia), and his greatest treasures, his great-grandchildren: Kara and Giovanni. Lucio is also survived by his brother Mario and sister Lucia in Italy.
Born in Portogruaro Italy, Lucio came to Canada in the mid 1950s to start a life of promise and prosperity for his wife and young sons. After working different jobs, he found his talent as a machinist.
Lucio was an avid outdoorsman who spent many years hunting and fishing in the wonderous mountain ranges and lakes throughout BC and Alberta. He was often accompanied on these adventures with his faithful dogs Mark, Dick and Brandy. He was a proud founding member of the Italian-Canadian Rod and Gun Club. Lucio was very active on many committees within the Italian Cultural Center and in 2021 was recognized with a Life Time Achievement Award.
Upon retirement, he rediscovered his artistic passion for painting. With no formal training, Lucio has captured on canvas the beautiful mountainsides and water features of our spectacular province. He has done landscapes, animals, birds, treasured landmarks of his homeland in Italy, flowers and fruits. Many families, friends and organizations in our community are proud owners of Lucio’s art.
Other hobbies and pastimes included archery (participated in the BC Senior Games for 5 years), gardening, wine making, woodworking and enjoying a good plate of fried calamari.
Lucio and Luisa found their happy place 45 years ago with a purchase of land in the mountains of Kamloops with the Rizzo Family. Together with dear friends, they built a recreation property that is being enjoyed by four generations. “The Cabin” was truly their happy place.
The family thanks the Cancer Clinic staff for their excellent care. Many thanks to Vancouver Coastal Health doctors and staff who supported the family with Lucio’s at-home care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, December 20th at Bell Burnaby Chapel from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm and Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Holy Cross Parish, 1450 Delta Avenue Burnaby.
