Man Kon was born in 1933 in Shiqi, Zhongshan, China, the sixth of ten children. In 1962, he moved to Hong Kong and worked on a tugboat, helping guide large cargo ships. He enjoyed his work and was well-respected by his employer and co-workers.
He later met his wife, Lai Wan, and together they welcomed their first son, Herman. In 1969, the family immigrated to Vancouver, where they later welcomed their daughter, Cecelia, and second son, Fonda.
Man Kon passed away on November 22, 2025, at the age of 92, following complications from pneumonia. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Lai Wan, in 2021. He is survived by his three children—Herman, Cecelia, and Fonda—and four grandchildren: Christopher, Charles, Marcus, and Miriya.
