Maria Porchetta

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nonna and Bis Nonna. Maria Porchetta was born in Bagnoli Del Trigno, Italy on August 9, 1931 and passed away on August 30, 2024 at the age of 93 years. As a newlywed she immigrated to Canada in February of 1957 where she started her new life. She spent most of her years as a homemaker who took so much joy in raising her 4 children.

Her passions included cooking, baking and spending time in the garden. Nothing put a bigger smile on her face then when she was blessed with grandchildren and was able to share her passions with them. As a mother and grandmother, she was always available for her family, no request too big. The legacy she leaves behind is evident through her large and loving family who carry on her traditions.

Maria was diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease several years ago and spent the last 7 years at Age Care Carlton long term care home. The family is very grateful for the care she received by the staff at Carlton Gardens Care home.

Maria was predeceased by her loving husband Giacinto, beloved son Angelo, her parents Achille and Teresa Tinaburri, sisters Filomena, Isolina and many other family members. Maria is survived by her loving children Teresa (Danny), Daniela (Carmelo), Steve (Jennifer), her cherished grandchildren Sarah, Alessia (Brian), Adriano, Lisa (Brodie), Alannah (Michael), Michael (Diana), Montana, Alexandra (Valerio), Michaela, Luca and great grandchildren Yago, Isabella, Matteya. She also leaves behind her sisters Santa, Emilia and many relatives.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bell and Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby, BC. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Holy Cross Parish, 1450 Delta Ave, Burnaby, BC followed by entombment at Ocean View Burial Park – South Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers a donation in Maria’s memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Alzheimer’s Society
