Mrs. Marlis Martha Bobetsis

May 22, 1937May 6, 2019

Marlis Bobetsis passed away peacefully on May 6, 2019. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter & Martha Kuschel, her husband of 56 years, George, her sister Christa and brother-in-law, Nick. Marlis leaves behind her brother Rudy (Barbara), several nieces and nephews.

Marlis was born in 1937 in Hannover, Germany and moved with her family to Winnipeg, Canada in August 1954. In Winnipeg she met a handsome Greek named George, soon after they were married in January 1956. Marlis and George moved to Vancouver in 1957 to build their life together. They had four children, Anthony, Peter (Katy), Stamatina (Kevin), and Ramona (Greg).

For many years Marlis and George enjoyed spending the winter months in Yuma, Arizona. They enjoyed their time in Yuma and made many friends. Marlis enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets and socks for her family. She was an avid reader who enjoyed a good thriller. Her devotion to her family was unmatched, she always remembered to send birthday, anniversary and all the wonderful holiday greetings throughout the year. We will miss the Easter bunnies and Christmas advent calendars that she gave her grandchildren. Marlis loved her ten grandchildren and enjoyed babysitting them whenever she could; Jens (Caitlin), Scott, Kirstie, Kelsea, Riley, Megan, Isabelle, Jennifer, Rachel, Tatum and two great grandchildren, Mason and Zac.

Marlis enjoyed family gatherings and would invite everyone out for a great meal that included photos and good conversation. Her thoughtfulness and generosity will always be remembered and missed.

I met Marlis and her husband George in Yuma, Arizona when they came to visit in the winter. I especially enjoyed her quiet dignity and yet she had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready for a good laugh. Her smile was ever present. I never saw her in a bad mood. I will miss her letters and cards, she never forgot a holiday or a birthday to let her friends know they were important to her. Her family will miss her but they are blessed with many years of memories. Pinkie Paranya

We have known Marlis since the 60's. We were neighbours in Burnaby. She came to our garage sales and street barbecues. Many laughs and many memories. Her daughters Tina and Ramona were my lifesavers looking after my kids so I could go out. My condolences to all her family. I am sorry I am unable to attend the service as we will be on our way to the Yukon.
