It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Mary Chen nee Wong - a caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She returned to her heavenly home on Oct 7, 2021, at age 64.
Mary is survived by her husband of 43 years, Thian Vui, and her daughters Valerie and Rene and son in law Davin. She also leaves many other family members and dear friends who will sadly miss her.
Born to Ah Yaw Wong and Margaret Fong in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei on May 1st, the youngest of five.
After graduating with honours, she married the boy next door and they had two children. In 1987, they emigrated from Brunei to Vancouver to provide a better future for their children. Despite the challenges and hardships, she remained strong, positive, and persevered. She suffered through hemodialysis, received a kidney transplant, and beat cancer. She did all this with only her family in mind, that she needed to be there for them. She was the mama bear, the glue of our family. The house will be empty without her vivacious laughter and love.
She loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious Peranakan meals and baking scrumptious cakes for her family. She kept an immaculate house and was highly skilled with a sewing machine. She enjoyed socializing and spending time with her friends. Most of all she loved her family and instilled her strong values. She made sure they had everything they ever needed and wanted.
Mom, we’ll love you forever.
We’ll love you always.
