Joon Poh (Mike) Low passed away peacefully at 9:06am May 11, 2024, at the age of 85, with his wife and daughter Jennifer by his side. He will be dearly missed by his wife Liaw Soon (Laura) Low, his son Joseph and daughter-in-law Jewel Yu, his daughter Irene and son-in-law Marc Jones, his daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Nathaniel Johnson, and his grandchildren Tiana, Graeme and Declan.
Joon Poh (Mike) arrived to Canada in 1971 from Brunei to find a better life for his family. Soon after, his wife and two eldest children joined him and their family grew to add another member. He worked very hard as a heavy duty mechanic to provide the best for his family. In later years, he loved traveling the globe to places such as Vietnam, Thailand, Mexico, Hawaii, Turkey, Australia, and New Zealand. He enjoyed playing badminton, eating his wife’s delicious food, doing tai chi and most of all, loved hearing and singing the songs of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and Elvis.
Prior to his life in Canada, he worked in Brunei for a health organization to help with the prevention of malaria. He was very active and played with a field hockey team, was in a singing ensemble, went fishing with friends and achieved his black belt in karate.
During the last few years, life was sometimes challenging, but he tried his best. His faith in God helped him through these times as did the South Burnaby Gospel Hall community. We remember him now in his times of hearty laughter, and deep love for his family.
