9 November, 1970 – 19 February, 2026.
Our family is completely heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of our most beloved husband, father, brother, friend, and cousin, Millin See, who departed us in Vancouver at VGH.
Millin was born at Grace Hospital, Vancouver, on November 9, 1970, to the delight of his parents, Anna and Henry See, as they hoped to have a Canadian-born son, to commemorate their recent immigration to Canada from Hong Kong, China, and to have a younger brother for their older son, Millan.
A highly inquisitive, humorous, sociable, ‘full of beans’ child with irresistible dimples, Millin was the apple of his family’s eyes, especially his paternal grandmother. Millin’s family life was busy with playing street hockey, helping his brother with his newspaper delivery route, going to swap meets with his dad where he got bird eggs to hatch, taking things apart and putting them back together, fishing with his dad and uncle, and playing with his cats, Pokey and Mickey, and Uncle Terry’s dog, Lucky. Millin was already a foodie as a child as he loved using all his earnings from delivering newspapers to buy treats such as donuts with no holes, KFC chicken, and chocolate milk.
Millin easily befriended many of the neighbourhood kids, and together they climbed trees, played games, listened to music, rode their bikes, chased fires, and freely and enthusiastically explored every nook and cranny of their East Vancouver community and beyond. Besides chatting with his peers, Millin genuinely enjoyed talking to the parents of his friends as well as his teachers, some with whom he maintained a relationship well into adulthood. It is these early, precious core memories that contributed to Millin’s lifelong love and steadfast commitment to his Ferndale neighbourhood that his neighbours unofficially designated him as ‘protector of the neighbourhood’, which was an integral part of his identity. He was also like Saint Francis of Assisi of the neighbourhood as he regularly would befriend and feed the cats and birds there.
Millin’s devotion to community was exemplified by his constant involvement and support of innumerable local organizations and events over many years, namely Powell Street Festival, Vancouver Christmas Bureau, Westcoast Motorcycle Racing Club, Templeton & Killarney Secondary school Film & Theatre programs, Dragon Boat/Four Fires Festival, and Britannia Community Centre’s volleyball programs.
Connecting with people and caring for them mattered enormously to Millin. In all areas of his life, Millin’s magnanimous heart led him to always lend a helping hand to those in need. It was not just a helping hand that he would extend, it would be his entire arm and then some. He generously and consistently gave of himself to others. As many family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances can attest, Millin embraced you as you are, open-mindedly, without judgement, and always with brotherly love.
Millin loved learning about everything. Besides attending Macdonald & Templeton schools, and later on, BCIT, he would seek knowledge by having frequent and intimate conversations with people, such as sitting with Rod at Vancouver Fire hall #9 for hours over decades to discuss anything related to fires and fire service, through kinesthetic learning, such as working as a games maintenance technician at Playland and starting his own commercial radio business, and by being passionate about plants, music (he was a music DJ spinning records at local clubs), animals, fireworks, Vancouver history and geography, and so much more. With his sharp memory for places, faces, and names, Millin was the epitome of a walking encyclopedia.
In 2007 Millin met his soulmate, Angelina, whom he married in 2010. From their first date to their nineteen years together, they were a dynamic duo who loved to laugh and shared the same values of integrity, caring, courage, altruism, justice, gratitude, and determination. Together, rooted in love that continually deepened over the years, they went on countless adventures that Millin planned, explored places such as Japan, England, Indonesia, Cuba, Spain, the Caribbean, attended multiple music concerts, had annual Las Vegas getaways, went frequently to the States for retail therapy, and indulged their love of food heartily and joyfully. They both shared the dream of being parents the moment they met and after fifteen years, their dream was finally realized.
Their son, Fidel Jia-Ruei, was brought home to Canada in April 2025. Millin was incredibly overjoyed and embraced his role as dad with every fibre of his being. He relished every moment with his son, and bathed him abundantly with his love, positivity and generosity. Millin was so proud to be Fidel Jia-Ruei’s dad and had every intention to teach and to share with his son all that he enjoyed and knew, such as radio programming, woodworking, growing plants, travelling, listening to pop music, troubleshooting and repairing things, and playing volleyball.
Millin is survived by his devoted wife, Angelina, his loving son, Fidel Jia-Ruei, his mother, Anna, his older brother, Millan, and his sister-in-law, Vivien. He joins his predeceased grandmother, father, Henry, and uncles, Terry and Hugh, in heaven.
May Millin’s constant smile and cheerful positivity shine eternally in all our hearts.
