My deep condolences to Anissa, Alan and all of Mrs. Kwong's family.  Mrs Kwong is now in eternal peace and I am sure her spirit and example will forever guide and bless her family and all she loves!

Dear Grandma, we share a lot of memories for the years when I was growing up in Hong Kong and Vancouver. You are the most kind person I know. Your live has touched many others. You will be dearly missed.

Dearest Mom, 

As Nurse Lynda of the Hospice has said several times before your departure, you were a fighter, fighting to the end of your cancer, and not letting go.

This was always part of your personality, being tough and independent. Your many virtues have role modelled me such as being considerate, hard working, responsible, efficient, helpful, humble, frugal, tolerable, open-minded .....

Since your cancer was diagnosed in March 2014, you had been very positive without fears and worries. You always said it was common for seniors to have illness, if not having this one, then it would be another kind. You went through the surgery bravely after a month, and decided not to go for chemotherapy though spread was detected.

In March this year, cancer was found in the lungs and right inguinal area. Again you decided not to go for chemotherapy drugs, and were very committed in nutrition therapy. It was highly difficult for any person to change the diet completely with immediate effect, yet you worked on it actively for 5 months with no regret. You tolerated the discomfort in the swellings of the limbs for many months and even kept the habit of walking everyday by cutting it short. 

After your first fall in early September, unfortunately your condition deteriorated quickly. I was very sad to find that your ability to do things failed with time, like teaching Angie to wrap sticky dumplings. You tried hard not to become dependent on others. You sensed that the end of your life path was coming up and asked me to prepare for you. 

In October, you were having palliative care at home with support from home nurses, family doctor and medical equipment. Many issues came up; both Alan and I were very stressed and worried. You were open-minded and agreed to apply to hospices. On October 20, you were sent to the Hospice by ambulance due to extreme difficulty in breathing. 

Under the good care of doctor and nurses at the Hospice, you spent 12 days there resting and seeing family members at your bed side. You were happy with them around you, under the sunshine and fresh air in the garden, and having lunch at the dining room. 

You were the best patient ever found and a great role model in handling illness, always being positive, considerate, cooperative, grateful, always trying to take care of yourself, never complain about anything, smile often .....

Mom, you had worked so hard to raise up four children. You were such a special Mom and a great companion of mine. I miss you so much!

Please rest in peace in heaven with Dad and Grandma, and enjoy your after-life!

When I think of Grandma, there's not a single thing that I didn't love about her. Her selflessness, intelligence, compassion, and diligence touched and inspired those around her every day. 

Rest in peace Grandma, rest well, for you have been working tirelessly for everyone around you all your life. There won't go a day where I won't be missing you, Grandma.
