It is with tender hearts and great sadness that we say goodbye to our mother, Molly Lopez. Molly passed away peacefully in the Irene Thomas Hospice in Ladner, on April 3, 2023 at the age of 78. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Trinidad and Tobago on October 15th, 1944. Molly was preceded in death by her parents, Baal Ramsahai and Katie Haban, along with her 11 other siblings Rosie, Dulsie, (baby), Gary, Allan, Joyce, Bebe, Gloria, Moonie, Dickie, Richard and her former husband Stanley Lopez.
Molly is survived by her children Suzzanne, Ricardo (Yuki) and Candice; her grandchildren Carter, Jordan, Max and Nyah and her two living siblings Silbert and Carlton (who both reside in Trinidad).
As a young woman, Molly met her former husband Stanley Lopez at a store at Marine Square in Trinidad while he was getting some doubles (Trinidad's favourite street food). He then went into J.N. Harriman’s, which is the store Molly worked at as an accounts payable supervisor, to buy a stereo, and the rest was history.
She lived in San Juan for 19 years, then Belmont, then left Trinidad with her first-born Suzzanne and headed to Vancouver, BC, where she joined up with her husband Stanley, who had come earlier to get settled. Molly started working at the Hudson’s Bay Company when she first arrived in Canada and continued to work there for over 35 years until she retired.
Molly came from humble beginnings from a family of 14 children, all growing up in the same house. She often told stories of how poor they were and how her mother managed to feed all the children, and they never went hungry and were always surrounded by love. Molly’s upbringing instilled in her a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the value of hard work and perseverance.
Molly will be deeply missed but will live in our hearts forever. She was a remarkable woman, full of love, compassion, and an unyielding work ethic. Throughout her life, she was known for her dedication to her family and her willingness to help others. Her heart was always open, and she went out of her way to make sure those around her felt loved and cared for. Her legacy will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
Molly was a person of diverse interests, including gardening, cooking and sports. Her love for gardening was unmatched and she devoted much of her time to tend to her plants, especially her beloved roses and flowers. She found immense happiness and solace in caring for them and seeing them thrive under her watchful eye. When it came to cooking, Molly loved making traditional Trinidadian dishes and she was well known for her mouth-watering rotis.
Molly’s love for her grandchildren knew no bounds. She adored spending time with them, reading stories, playing games, and sharing her wisdom. Her warmth and affection were a constant source of comfort and inspiration to them.
Despite the challenges that life threw her way, Molly never lost her fighting spirit. She remained steadfast in her determination to provide for her family and create a better life for them. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her loved ones will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew her.
Our family would like to express our deep appreciation and gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and condolences we have received during this difficult time. Your kindness and sympathy have brought us comfort and strength as we mourn the loss of our mother. We are grateful for the memories that have been shared and will cherish them forever.
Molly may have left this world, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, dear Mom.
