1926-2016
Murriel Passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 5, 2016.
Predeceased and much loved by Bernard Hawley (married 55 years) and Raymond Daniels (married 12 years).
Murriel, an eternal beauty who put obligation and duty before all.
Her talents and resourcefulness were legion - naturally acquired Bright and quick to learn she was oft admired.
Assistant in a grain brokers office
“Please let me buy you a seat on the grain exchange.”
Murriel refuses. It’s not in the long range... plan
Bernard has asked for her hand
Marriage in Portage La Prairie - not grand.
It’s. war years.
Linda is born, Bernard is at war
Murriel works, papers and paints
Life is a chore.

Three more children, Barry, Allan and Anne Come in addition.
Baking, canning, gardening,
Help build a house
Hold down the farm
Carry pails of water
Up from the creek our bathwater to warm
Later: landscape paintings large and small Beautiful enough to hang on any wall.
Sewing she hated but Singered away
Hallowe’en costumes
Ballet dancing penguins
and outfits for the school play.
She was musical
by golly
She could play anything
(but the violin)
Better than any Hawley.
Accordian, Mouthorgan, Organ and Piano
Whistle, sing and dance up a storm
When Murriel took a notion she could really perform.
Shoot a rifle - she was awesome
Doctor children and animals -no problem
Volunteer at various things
Sometimes I thought her feet were springs!
Fear of water - never mind
learn to swim, path defined.
Syncronized swimming, dips in the ocean
enjoy the Cockatoo, waves of motion.
Career extended…grain brokers assistant
legal secretary
then secretary to chartered accountant
End up at UBC
a place with some dignity
Secretary to the dean of Economics!
Retired. Time to enjoy
grandchildren both
girls and boys
The boat, fishing and travel..
The woman was a marvel.
Several great grands
some she saw, some not
because they were far away...
but all brought joy
in some way!
We love you and will miss you Murriel/Mom/Gram
Murriel is survived by her brother, Barrie Dragan of Middleton, N. S. Sister Marie Refausse of Langley
Four children: Linda Dakin of Toronto, Barry Hawley of Sydney, Australia, Allan (Heather) Hawley, and Anne (Cameron) Mcintosh of Parksville.
Grandchildren most amazing: Brett Dakin, Cara (Tobias) Bourdeau, Shaun Hawley (Samantha), Michael Hawley (Leanne) James Mark Hawley (Danielle) and Roseanna (Michael) Robertson Bradley McIntosh, Matthew (Tanya) McIntosh and Ian McIntosh. And 12 wonderful great grand children.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions to Arthritis Society, Vancouver division (604-714-5550) would be welcomed.
Special Thanks to those who provided dedicated care to Murriel over the past few years.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady for Perpetual Help Parish, 2465 Crown Street, Vancouver B.C. at 10 am Friday October 21st. Reception to follow.
