Ngan Fong was born on June 7, 1936, in Taishan, Guangdong, China. In 1974, she immigrated to Canada and made her home in Richmond, British Columbia, where she devoted her life to her family and community.
Arriving in Canada without speaking English, Ngan Fong demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience while raising her young family in a community where there were very few Chinese families. While her husband, Chi Tung Ng, spent much of his time working in Hong Kong, she cared for her children, supported extended family members, and worked tirelessly at a factory in Vancouver to help support the household. Despite the long days, she would return home each evening to prepare a full dinner and fresh soup for the family. Her dedication, perseverance, and quiet sacrifices helped lay the foundation for the life her family built in Canada.
She was known for her warm, outgoing personality and was truly a social butterfly. Selfless and always thinking of others before herself, she had a natural ability to connect with people and bring joy to those around her. Her smile and laughter were infectious, and she took great pride in her family and loved spending time together over meals, outings, and gatherings.
She also lovingly cared for her grandchildren, preparing meals for them daily and looking after them as they grew up, treating them with the same care and devotion she gave her own children.
Ngan Fong shared a deep and loving relationship with her husband, Chi Tung, to whom she was married for 70 years. Together they built a life centered on family, resilience, and caring for those around them, and their bond remained strong throughout the decades. Their love for one another was truly irreplaceable.
In later years, she especially enjoyed spending time with friends and playing mahjong, moments that brought her great happiness and laughter.
She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Chi Tung, who passed away in 2022, and her daughter Betty, who passed away in 2024.
Ngan Fong is lovingly remembered by her children Rennis, William (Jackie), and Cindy (David); her grandchildren Thomas, Sheldon (Pauline), Alex, Trevor, and Christianne (Fred); and her great-grandchildren Anya, Nora, and Theodore, along with extended family and friends whose lives she touched.
Ngan Fong’s life was defined by devotion to her family, tireless work, generosity, and a nurturing spirit. She brought immense joy to those around her, and those who loved her cherished every opportunity to make her smile. Her love, strength, and the values she instilled in her family will continue to guide future generations.
