Born in the Ukrainian community of Innisfree, Alberta, to Bill and Agnes Woudzia. Percy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Angie (Angelica Popovich) and his three children, John (Kathleen), Lisa (Craig Merritt), and Cathy Nidoski (Trevor), as well as 10 grandchildren, 4 nieces, two grand-nieces, two grand-nephews and relatives in the U.S. and Canada.
Percy attended King Edward High School in Vancouver where he met the love of his life, and future wife, Angie. He was an outstanding athlete, excelling in both football and rugby. He loved to travel and he and Angie took many trips to Europe, the U.S. A. and Asia. Summers fishing at Secret Cove with family and friends, and at St. John’s Lodge with his friend Tony, were favourite times in his life.
Percy was larger than life. He lived life to the fullest, knowing how to create something special out of every minute. He was a romantic, and loved his Saturday night dates with Angie, just the two of them or with closest friends. He loved hosting Boxing Day open houses and barbeques in the back yard, where family and friends gathered for a good time.
Percy was a devoted and loving family man. When he became very ill, his son John comforted him daily for months with visits and calls, and helped his Dad in every possible way. His daughters Lisa and Cathy, whose love shone brightly as he lay ill, made every day an important day in his life. His boys, Taylor and Dan, and his girls, Alex, Lindsay, and Jillian and his new grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Brandon, Josh and Olivia all enriched his life tremendously. He was touched and blessed by the devotion of family members during his long period of illness.
Percy had a highly successful career for 40 years in the industrial trailer and office furniture industries and worked steadily until he was 74 years old, loving every minute of it. His retirement was spent in his back yard enjoying the flowers he loved, sunbathing, drinking wine, and listening to old Slavic folk songs.
Many thanks to Cindy Nordquist and Dr. Kimmel at St. Paul’s Heart Function Clinic for three years of extraordinary care, Dr. Margret Krawchuck, who always had time to see Percy and was a source of strength and hope, and the wonderful nurses and doctors of Delta Hospital and the Home Care Nurses of Fraser Health for their kind and compassionate care. At the end, the Irene Thomas Hospice provided quality of life for Percy and his family for which we are most thankful.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby, BC on Sunday July 13th at 1:00 pm. Donations to the Canadian Juvenile Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated.
