She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Wing Him, her children Peter, Conan (Anne), Doris (Peter), Eddie (Joyce), her grandchildren Aaron, Kelsey, Ryan, Tasia, Kirsten, Evan, her sister Kathy, and her brothers Stefan and David.
Pui Kuen was born in Toisan, China and immigrated to Canada in 1959 to join her husband. She worked hard at many different jobs, whether it was picking strawberries, beans or potatoes, hulling shrimp, or packing bags of salad, to help provide a good life for her family. She was a strong-minded woman who encouraged us to always strive for the best. She was a traditional Asian mother in some respects, like insisting that each of her children obtain university educations to make their lives better. As well, Mom was an ardent believer that each of us own property as that was always the best investment. She was right. In other ways she was not so traditional, as she treated each of her kids equally, even Doris, her only daughter.
Mom lived for her family and her happiest times were spent with the grandchildren. Well into her eighties, she insisted that the family gather for a weekly dinner at her house where she and Dad would whip up meals. She loved the busy activity and conversation during family gatherings. Mom was always willing to babysit, whether it be for the kids or a family dog or bird. She loved to putter around in her garden tending to her precious melons and she would proudly point them out when we visited. She was so excited when she was able to harvest the melons and sell them to local shops in the neighbourhood.
She gave us all much love, care and patience and we will cherish her memory forever in our hearts.
