On February 10, 2021, Rita Tuan, our beloved mother, wife, and Nonna got her wings and went to fly with the angels. She was 78 years old.

Predeceased by her mother and father (Luigi and Maria Trentin), brothers (Aurelio, Arcangelo, and Giuseppe), and sisters (Alice Teresina and Alice), Rita leaves behind her loving husband Mario of 50 years, three children Fabio, Sonya (Sean), and Nadia (Donnie), seven grandchildren (Gabriella, Olivia, Luca, Anna, Danielle, Lauren, and Ava), four siblings (Angela, Silvana, Egidio, and Lorenzo), and many friends and extended family members.

Rita arrived in Vancouver on July 31, 1968 to be with her sister, Angela, and start a new life for herself. She met her husband Mario, shortly after, and they were married on December 5, 1970 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in East Vancouver. They purchased a home nearby and, it is there where, together, they raised their three children, working tirelessly to support, guide, love, and provide for them.

A devoted mother and Nonna, Rita was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Rita was known for her hard-working nature, warmth, kindness, selflessness, and generosity. When she wasn't busy trying to feed everyone, you could find her gardening, scratching lottery tickets, playing pranks, or spending time with her family. Rita was a voice of comfort. Her happiness came from seeing that others were at ease and enjoying themselves. She made sure that everyone around her knew they were appreciated and loved. Her love was unconditional, and her silly and goofy nature made everyone around her smile. She was a star in the eyes of her grandchildren, and that is all that ever mattered to her.

Nobody will ever replace such a beautiful and humble soul. We feel so fortunate to have loved and been loved by her. We can take solace in the fact that Rita is in heaven now, where her golden heart and hard-working hands are finally at rest.

Ti ameremo per sempre, Rita. Rimarrai per sempre nei nostri pensieri e nei nostri cuori.

I am deeply saddened to hear of your great loss. I have so many precious memories of all the times I/we spent at your home in our childhood years. Your Mom introduced me to Orange Pekoe tea, add lemon zest and a splash of sugar, to this day, every time I have this I think of her. First time having tuna spaghetti, mozzarella mortadella red pepper sandwiches, olives, salami, homemade crostoli, fresh bread… I can go on and on! Thinking back, I cannot believe your Mother let us, crazy kids, run through the house day in and day out! Doors unlocked! Doors always open. Though we haven’t seen Rita in years, know that she has been on our minds, big part of our childhood. Forever in our hearts. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this heartbreaking time.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Rita’s loss. I came to know Rita as being a friend of Sonya and Nadia’s and each and every time I visited the house, I was made to feel welcome. Rita would insist I had something to eat and drink and was usually making some sort of delicious treat that was offered with love. I always felt like an extended family member! Rita was always joyful, smiling, and showing so much love to her children and grandchildren. Please accept my most sincere condolences.

I will never forget how you accepted me into your home with open arms and so much love, you treated me like I was family. You were an amazing cook and always looked after people. I don't know anyone else who is/was as selfless and as kind and inclusive as you.

Our deepest condolences from all of us here in Italy. I have so many fond memories when the families used to get together and have lots of laughs. How much Rita loved all of us, and we loved her, and how much we laughed and joked with her. Even if it's been many years that we haven't seen each other, please know that she will be missed dearly from all of us. Sending you all our love Cristiana and family.

We are so sad that we can’t be with you all right now. The distance and covid prevents the travel. We loved Rita as you all did. We had warm welcome and enjoyed our visits. Rita will be missed by any who knew her warm heart silly character and loving self. Rita has been mamma to many including son Donnie who is so far from his family. We appreciate her being there when we couldn’t be. She will be resting now and at peace with our Lord. She will be looking down on all her family and watching. Memories of her laugh, her silly nature, and her loving ways will help heal the sadness for all of you. Love to you all.

We remember well the first time we met Rita. We loved her at first sight. She was such a gracious lady with a huge heart. You couldn’t help but be drawn to her warmth and strength. I loved the stories she told us about the practical jokes she played on Mario and how he was only to happy to reciprocate. We laughed with her and enjoyed our visits with her and Mario. Our visits to our children will be just a little sadder because she won’t be there but her legacy lives on in her children and our mutual grandchildren. She loved them all without limit.
Rest In Peace our dear friend.
