It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roberto Angel Alvarez Garchitorena of Vancouver on February 21, 2026, at the age of 89.
Roberto was born on October 1, 1936, in Manila to Angel Buen and Antonia Alvarez. He spent much of his youth in San Jose and later earned his degree in Accounting from San Beda University, becoming a Certified Public Accountant.
In 1972, he married Beatriz Valer, and together they immigrated to Canada in 1973, settling in Vancouver where they raised their two sons, Richard and Ronald. Roberto worked with ICBC and the Vancouver Stock Exchange until his retirement due to health concerns. In retirement, he and Beatriz shared a love of travel, community gatherings, and dancing, performing with the Filipino Golden Age Group. A devoted man of faith, he was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus.
Roberto was predeceased by his beloved wife, Beatriz, in 2015. He is lovingly remembered by his sons Richard and Ronald, his brother Mario, his sisters Fe and Susan, and extended family and friends.
