In the morning of February 2nd, just months shy of her 100th birthday, Rose passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her mother Marija (Maria), father Joseph, her beloved husband of 59 years Steve (Dibby), sisters Ursula (Dale), Sylvia, Mary, Frances, Deanna and brother Joe. She is survived by sister Katherine, brother-in-law Gunther, her son Steven, many nieces, nephews and dear family friends.
Born in Crikvenica, Croatia, Rose immigrated to Canada in 1929. Upon arriving at the Halifax harbour her parents travelled west by rail to Vancouver, British Columbia and settled in the Strathcona District where they resided at 666 East Pender Street where now stands a tree alone. Moving east on Pender Street near the PNE Rose met the love of her life Dibby and on June 25th in 1947 they were married and finally moved to Kitchener and Kaslo to start a family.
In addition to caring for her family Rose worked tirelessly at many jobs, a waitress in a coffee shop, a fashion consultant in a woman’s clothing boutique and part owner of a golf driving range in Richmond.
Rose enjoyed life. She went on boat cruises, sailing the Mediterranean and through the Panama Canal to name a couple. She spent some time in the Orient and loved listening to Don Ho sing in Hawaii. What she really loved to do was visit the bright lights of Las Vegas, especially the roulette wheel and one-armed bandits and lady luck was often on her side. She would always take in a show or two while in Vegas as well. At a party you would find her in the middle of the floor dancing to a disco beat sometimes into the early morning. She’s reunited with her husband Steve again and dancing the night away!
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday February 19th at 1:00pm in the chapel of Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel 4276 Hastings St. Burnaby.
