It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Rose Lin Lee (Chow Choy Lin). Born on July 26, 1931 and passed away on January 7, 2025 at 93 years old.
She will be missed by her son Kerry (Pamela), grandchildren Kevin, Trevor & Shannon; daughter Sandra (Carl), grandchildren Jonathan & Kirsten; brother Frank & sister Susie.
Rose was born and raised in Vancouver BC. She was the second eldest of 9 children and led the way for her siblings with her independent nature. As a young Canadian born Chinese woman, Rose had a rebellious streak, choosing to defy her family and eloped with a handsome pots and pans salesman David Lee. While their early years of marriage were challenged by poverty, eventually their fortunes turned as both of them worked full time with the assistance of neighbors and close relatives babysitting their 2 children Kerry and Sandra. As a mother of 2 working full time, Rose really was a trailblazing Independent Woman.
Rose loved working with numbers and used her passion and aptitude to enroll in business courses and eventual accreditation with the Credit Institute of Canada. She combined her knowledge and personality to become lifelong friends with co-workers and gained the respect of industry executives in credit management and BC lumber sales. Post retirement she continued to work part-time completing tax returns and working during elections.
Outside of her corporate career, Rose lived life to the fullest traveling across North America, Europe and Asia while competing in a bowling league and frequently flying to Vegas. Throughout her life Rose was also an avid reader and player of games of chance.
Rose was also known as beloved “Grandma Rose” to 5 grandchildren whom she frequently babysat and loved equally. Rose also formed close bonds with several of her nephews and nieces as she always remained a young rebel at heart, allowing her to relate to the younger generation.
The family will hold a private service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on January 17, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
