Mourning her are her children (and their partners) Helen, Margaret, John (Jinny), Paul (Meenu), Andrew, Mark (Roxanne), and David (Nancy); her grandchildren Daniel, Jessica, Joseph, Alexandra, Jordan, Samuel, Hayley, Kamal, Arianne, Dominique, Henry-Lewis, and Nathaniel; great-grandchild Leopold; her sister Lilian and her brother Cecil.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Lewis Glavina, her brothers Wilfred, Harold, Gerald, and Edward, and her sister Edwina, all of whom occupied a special place in her heart.
Rosemary was born and raised in Malta, where she survived heavy bombardment during the Second World War, a shaping event in her life. When her mother died, Rosemary left school to look after her younger brothers and sister. She also worked as an office manager for her father’s import-export company until she married Lewis.
Leaving a devastated Malta, Rosemary and Lewis immigrated to Canada in 1956. They arrived in Montreal with few resources and started life afresh. An extrovert, with a deep well of stories about family, Malta, and the war, Rosemary made fast friends wherever she went, which was usually to her Catholic church in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Burnaby, BC. Besides raising her rambunctious children, Rosemary said that being the Canadian Link for the Missionaries of Charity was one of her proudest accomplishments. Her children will miss her for her ferocious love of family, her vivacity, and her prodigious gift for telling stories. She could tell the same stories hundreds of times, each time with the same relish and hilarity.
Catholic funeral mass will be at Holy Cross Church in Burnaby, BC on Tuesday, January 25 at 11 am. The family prefers that only people who are fully vaccinated attend. A private entombment for family only will follow.
